Courtovo

Volleyball scoring on your watch, beach and hall

Courtovo keeps the score of a volleyball match — two on the sand or six in a hall — the way the FIVB counts it, and it is made for the games with no scoresheet and nobody in the referee's chair.

How volleyball is scored

Every rally is a point. A set goes to 25, won by two; indoors the match is best of five and the fifth set goes to 15. On a beach the sets go to 21, best of three, and the third to 15. Whoever wins the rally scores it and serves next.

The part people lose track of is the court: on a beach the pairs switch sides every 7 points played, every 5 in the third set; in a hall the teams change ends after each set, and at 8 in the fifth.

What Courtovo counts

Beach: best of three to 21, and one set to 21 or to 15. Hall: best of five to 25, and best of three. Formats of your own too — a deciding set to 15, sides switched every 7 points.

It tells you when to switch sides, with two buzzes and the ⇄ mark. And it asks who serves where the rules leave it to a toss — the second and third set on a beach, the last set in a hall: tap the side that serves, the way you would score.

A beach pair is doubles. More than two a side is a team, and it goes to your club like any match.
